infra-Legalities research presentation at the University of Oxford

infra-Legalities: A method assemblage for thinking law and data infrastructures together

On 8 March 2021 Dr. Gavin Sullivan presented some of the initial aspects of the infra-Legalities research project at the University of Oxford. The paper, entitled, ‘infra-Legalities A method assemblage for thinking law and data infrastructures together’ was presented at  a seminar hosted by the Oxford Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS) directed by Professor Linda Mulcahy.

Using a number of empirical examples drawn from the global security space, Dr. Sullivan highlighted the key conceptual and methodological challenges of doing socio-legal research on algorithmic security issues, connecting the research with earlier currents of socio-legal scholarship. The paper was followed by lively discussion. It is hoped that the ideas presented here in draft form will help inform future research and publications for the infra-Legalities project going forward.
