infra-Legalities at the Frontiers of Socio-legal Studies

Fronties of Socio-legal Studies

Gavin Sullivan has contributed a short text about the infra-Legalities research project for the new University of Oxford online platform, Frontiers of Socio-Legal Studies. The platform aims to ‘provoke new debates, provide a space for reflection and imagine new Socio-Legal futures’ and is organised by the Oxford Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS). The contribution highlights two methodological issues with socio-legal research on algorithmic global security practices: (i) the need to study data infrastructures, rather than data per se and (ii) the importance of adopting a relational approach to the study of data governance. Both of these threads are important framing considerations for the infra-Legalities research project.
