New report launched: global counterterrorism architecture and civil society impacts

Is the global counter-terrorism agenda shrinking civic space?

A new report co-authored by Gavin Sullivan and Chris Jones (Executive Director, Statewatch) was recently published by the Funders Initiative for Civil Society (FICS) on the adverse impacts of global counterterrorism infrastructure on civic space.

It links the erosion of civic space (for example, through the surveillance of civil society organisations and attacks on human rights defenders and journalists) with changes in global security law and governance, arguing in favour of long-term advocacy efforts and philanthropic funding targeting the structural drivers of these changes. FICS is an initiative of Global Dialogue – a philanthropic support organisation that aims to enables independent funders to work together to realise ambitious goals and create lasting change.
